Who is Mrs. Thompson?
I am currently at home on maternity leave; spending time with my son and newborn daughter. I have been employed as a classroom teacher in the Turtle River School Division since the fall of 2013. I serve as the Grade 8 homeroom and my course load spans from Grade 7-12.
My teaching experience has included the following subjects:
- Grade 7 Art, Science, Social Studies
- Grade 8 Art, Math, Science & Social Studies
- Grade 9 Math & Science
- Grade 10 Geography & Science
- Grade 11 Canadian History
- Grade 11/12 Current Topics in First Nations, Metis & Inuit Life
In the spring of 2018 I graduated with my Master of Education Degree with a focus on Curriculum & Pedagogy. I devoted this journey towards understanding the purposeful implementation of technology to expand curricular objectives; specifically in remote and rural classrooms.
In the spring of 2013 I graduated with my two-year Bachelor of Education (After Degree) with a focus on senior years education at a small university in Manitoba, Canada. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in the spring of 2011 with a major in History and a double minor in both Geography and Geology.
I am very much a country girl at heart and, I must admit, that even living in Brandon for university was too much for me! I am now currently living with my husband on his family's three-generation farm and I couldn't be happier to be back in the country.
When I am not at school, my husband and I are busy with our family, working on the family farm or keeping up with our favourite football team: the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Teaching Philosophy"Differentially instruct me, I'll internalize. Use technology with me, I'll participate, I'll transfer, I'll employ & I'll create."
- T. Erben As a teacher I want to do everything in my power to not only have my students learn the curriculum, but to also learn to value the learning process. Education opens up an infinite amount of opportunities and all students are capable of taking their learning to amazing heights. It is my hope that, through my position as a teacher, my students are able to enjoy the learning process and recognize the incredible things that they are all capable of achieving. The following points highlight my personal philosophy of education and give a glimpse of what learning looks like in my classroom: - Knowing & fully understanding the students in my classroom is of the utmost importance - Every student comes into the classroom with varying levels of prior knowledge, different personal experiences, different types of intelligence, varying learning, etc and should be provided with opportunities to learn in a manner that best suits them - Content should be presented in a manner that is relevant and meaningful for the students - Incorporation of technology should be appropriate to the specific task and should be applied in a manner that allows for practical application after the students leave the classroom - Students should be provided with the opportunity to learn about aspects through varying perspectives |
